Sleep out challenge: Experience one night outside to raise awareness and fund for homelessness
Your 4-week sleep out preparation plan
Learn & Listen: Research homelessness in the UK. Follow organisations, read personal stories, and notice the people in your own community who may be struggling.
Fundraise with Purpose: Set up your fundraising page, tell friends and family why you’re taking part, and invite them to donate. Even small amounts make a big difference.
Practice Gratitude:Reflect on your daily routines (a hot shower, your bed, a meal at home), and write down what you’re grateful for. This deepens the challenge’s impact.
The Sleep Out: Spend one night outside (garden, balcony, porch, or safe public event). Share your reflections the next day.
Extra ways to get involved
Not everyone can safely sleep outside, and that’s okay! You can still raise awareness and support by:
Warmth in a Bag: put together care packs with socks, gloves, hats, toiletries, and snacks to donate to local shelters or outreach teams.
Give Your Time: volunteer at a soup kitchen, food bank, or night shelter. Even a few hours can make a difference.
Advocate for Change: sign petitions, write to your MP, or support campaigns tackling housing shortages and homelessness prevention.
Share a Story: many charities (like Crisis or Shelter) share lived-experience stories. Repost them on social media to help break stigma and raise awareness.
UK charities to support
Crisis UK – working to end homelessness through services, education, and campaigning.
Shelter – providing advice, support, and legal services to people facing housing difficulties.
Centrepoint – supporting homeless young people with housing, education, and employment opportunities.
"Sleep Out,
Speak Out!"

One night outdoors to raise voices, funds, and hope for those without a home!
Step out of your comfort zone for one night to shine a light on homelessness. By swapping your bed for a sleeping bag, you’ll help raise awareness and vital funds to support people without a safe place to call home.
More than 354,000 people across England are experiencing homelessness, with thousands sleeping rough on any given night. Behind the statistics are real lives: children growing up in temporary accommodation, adults stuck in unsafe housing, and people sleeping on the streets, vulnerable to the elements.
By taking part in this challenge, you’ll not only deepen your understanding of what it means to sleep rough but also raise your voice (and funds!) for change.
